Raising investment in your business
You may be seeking investment for a new business or for an existing business. The investment can be used in number of ways. For example, to develop and launch a new product or service, to expand into new premises, or to develop a new platform for the business (a new website, for example).
Raising investment can be very a difficult. There are, however, numerous options which carry certain benefits but may also have negative repercussions. For example, you may raise investment through crowd funding but you may need to give the investors some form of ownership over part of your business. You could seek investment from private equity, who will probably want to secure their investment in the business but could offer helpful guidance and support on running the business. You may seek investment from friends and family as passionate supporters of you and your business.
We can advise and assist you with the legal process of the investment including:
- Advising you on the legal implications of your options to raise investment.
- Drafting and advising on the terms of an investment or loan agreement.
- Advising on the terms of any security you have granted over the investment or loan (for example, a debenture or charge) and drafting the document to record the security.
- Where appropriate, ensuring that the relevant documents are registered with Companies House and / or the Land Registry.
