Lasting Power of Attorney
Estate Planning Lawyers: Lasting Power of Attorney
An attorney is a person who acts on behalf of another. A lasting power of attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows you to appoint one or more people to manage your financial affairs and/or personal welfare. These appointed attorneys can act on your behalf from the moment the document is registered or merely in the event that you begin to lose your mental capacity.
At Rollingsons Solicitors in London, we prepare two types of lasting powers of attorney documents.
- A property and affairs LPA allows the person you designate as your attorney to manage your financial affairs, including collecting benefits, paying bills and writing cheques.
- A welfare LPA gives your appointed attorney decision-making power in issues concerning your health care, living arrangements and other personal matters.
Planning for Your Own Future
The lasting power of attorney is an extremely useful document which can prepare for the management and protection of your financial and/or personal welfare in the future, should you become incapable of making such decisions.
Our lawyers can provide full advice and assistance in setting up a lasting power of attorney for yourself or in making an application to the Court of Protection to designate you as a deputy for another person, typically a family member.
